I've downloaded a few free antivirus softwares from ''www.downloads.com'' and they all seem to not work very well. I want to scan my PC for everything, all viruses and spyware. Any suggestions?

http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ is the best one and does it the antivirus checking over the internet. Thus you dont risk your computer's antivirus to fail because the virus already corrupted the software.

I'd recommend AVG Free anti-virus which you can get at http://free.grisoft.com. This should solve your virus problems.
Also, get Lavasoft AdAware from http://www.adaware.com and Spybot Search and Destroy from http://www.safer-networking.org.
